Six Steps to winning documentation
or
Interior Decorating and the Art of Documentation
David Keen
Training and Documentation Specialist
Every profession and field is growing more competitive and often it's just the small things which make the
difference between great and just good, between winning and being an 'also ran'.
I believe it's the same with technical writing and documentation. I'm confident that my six step system will give
you the insight and knowledge that will enable you to improve the standard of your documentation so that it
stands out - all for very little extra effort.
It's not just about 'looking pretty'. For me a key element of usability is engagement, and it's just commonsense
that people are more likely to pick up and use something if it looks good, if it's easy on the eye - not to
mention if it actually works better.

About David
David has been working in the training and documentation fields for over twenty years – principally as an
independent consultant and contractor.
He has mainly worked in the fields of finance (maybe this is because he originally trained to be an accountant)
and aviation (maybe this is because he likes to fly in business class or better).
Graphics have always been central to David's work.
David was there when desktop publishing allowed paper-based self-study to become practical. Later, he was also
there when elearning took off. Now he is there as video technologies are giving us yet another instructional tool.
